Islamic holyday: Eid al-Adha (Festival of the Sacrifice), also known as The Greater Eid, commemorates when Abraham fully submitted himself to Allah on Mount Arafat but was spared from sacrificing his son. Pilgrims celebrate Eid al-Adha after descending from Mount Arafat, near Mecca, as part of the Hajj. The festival lasts 4 days and is celebrated worldwide.[i]

All Day Yom Kippur

Jewish High Holy Day: Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) begins at sunset the evening before, 10 days after Rosh HaShanah (the Head of the Year). A day of reconciliation, Yom Kippur is the longest synagogue service of the year, where Jews seek forgiveness for their sins throughteshuvah (repentance), prayer, and fasting, striving to improve themselves and make amends with those they have wronged to make peace with G-d and their fellow human beings. [i]

8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Suffolk Service Challenge
Suffolk Service Challenge (September 16 – September 30) 

Start the year with the Suffolk Service Challenge by participating in a series of volunteer projects and other fun events. Participants will receive a t-shirt and a chance to win fabulous prizes.

To join the Suffolk Service Challenge please complete the online registration form or contact the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). After you have registered, stop by the CCE in Donahue 209 to pick up your t-shirt. 

Participants must register on SUconnect for each CCE event that they plan to attend and will receive points for each event that is attended.  The three students who have earned the highest number of points at the end of the Challenge will be eligible to win 2 tickets to a Bruins hockey game, an MBTA LinkPass or a Hubway 1-year membership.

On Thursday, October 1, there will be a luncheon from 1-2 to celebrate all that has been accomplished during the Service Challenge!                
9:00 AM - 7:00 PM The Adams Gallery presents V - A Graphic Design Exhibit - through October 12

The Adams Gallery presents V, an exhibit of thesis projects by Suffolk University student-artists completing a master of arts in graphic design.

The show features a variety of media within graphic design and reflects the conceptual and critical thinking skills that students developed during their master thesis work.

An opening reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 19, and the exhibit runs through October 12.  

The following graphic design students from Suffolk's New England School of Art & Design are featured in the exhibit:

  • Janet Khuu

The Adams Gallery is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.at the gallery, located in Sargent Hall, 120 Tremont St., Boston.

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Off Campus Housing Open House

Location: 73 Tremont Street, 7th Floor

All students are invited to learn more about the Off Campus Housing Office and meet the Commuter Ambassadors.  Located in 73 Tremont we kick off the year, every 10th student to visit OCHO on the 7th Floor will receive a Suffolk OCHO sweatshirt while supplies last.

The Techies Union aims to nurture, educate and grow both the number and abilities of student event technicians and designers in the Suffolk community, as well as to serve as a resource for any Suffolk event looking for technicians and designers.  Stop by the Performing Arts Office at D409 for more information and to sign up!
4:30 PM - 5:30 PM Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Information Session

Are you interested in joining fellow Suffolk students for a week of service during your spring break? Over one hundred students will have the opportunity to travel to various locations across the United States to volunteer in communities of need. Attend an information session to learn more about the trips and how to apply.

4:45 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday Night Paulist Center Supper Club

Help serve meals at the Paulist Center to those in need. Meet at the Center for Community Engagement, Donahue 209, at 4:45 pm. This is a weekly opportunity limited to the first 5 volunteers who R.S.V.P. through SUconnect.

Roller skating on the Somerset Plaza, With carnival style food. Roller skates will be provided.
6:00 PM Graduate Programs Information Session
Deans, program directors, and graduate admission staff will be on hand to address all of your questions regarding the graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences and Sawyer Business School. Rather than holding formal presentations, the sessions are highlighted by group and individual discussions.

W!CKED is Suffolk's hip hop dance company. They do a lot of different styles of hip hop and are always innovative. W!CKED hosts an annual hip hop dance competition every March. Stop by the PAO at D 409 for more information and to sign up!
