11:00 AM - 3:00 PM The Mirror Revealed: Stories Told

We are made of our stories.

Through their work, the six artists in this Suffolk University Gallery exhibit answer such questions as:

  • Why do we need stories as a species?
  • How do these stories in the form of myths, fairytales, and folktales reflect on our current cultural conditions, as they have for centuries? Why do these archetypes continue to resonate?
  • How do similar narratives cross cultures?
  • How do we tell these stories to ourselves?
  • How are our real lives and stories mingled with our online presences and relationships?

Participating artists:

Catriona Baker
Andrea Dezso
Anne Eder
Dan Estabrook
Cig Harvey
Terrasa Ulm

12:15 PM - 1:30 PM Navigating the Changing Landscape of Digital Journalism
The Sawyer Library Speaker Series presents A. Sherrod Blakely discussing some of the potholes for young journalists to avoid and how to get around them when they surface. In addition to some must-haves as they begin to chart out a successful journalist career.

A. Sherrod Blakely is back by popular demand. He is a veteran sports journalist who has covered a range of sports, from field hockey to the Final Four. Since 2009, he has been a digital media reporter covering the Boston Celtics for Comcast SportsNet, CSNNE.com, and SportsNet Central. Prior to that, the Syracuse, New York, native was an NBA beat writer in Detroit, where he covered the Pistons for Booth News Service and MLive.com. His professional career hasn't always been in the pros. Prior to working in Michigan, Blakely spent five years covering Duke, North Carolina State, and the ACC for the Raleigh, North Carolina News & Observer. He credits those opportunities having come about because of the encouragement he received from his tenth-grade English teacher - Mr. Paratore - and the education he received at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
