The Suffolk University Interfaith Center (Donahue 540) will be open all day for prayer, reflection and support on Thursday, September 11th, 2014.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Service Training
This training is mandatory for all students who will be participating in Suffolk University sponsored service work. Topics include service placement rules, participation requirements, student responsibilities, safety rules and emergency protocols. Please RSVP through SUconnect to attend this event. Want to work for peace?
Come to meet others who are interested, and hear a talk by Jeff Klein, "The Crisis in Gaza"

Jeff Klein is a life-long activist. From his role as a local union president to joining the South African freedom struggle in the late 1980s, Jeff has been involved in fighting for peace and justice for many years. Since 2003, Jeff has been active with Dorchester People for Peace and several Palestine solidarity organizations, including Massachusetts Peace Action. Nearly every year for the past decade, Jeff has traveled to Palestine/Israel and elsewhere in the Middle East – including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt; he has many close friends among grassroots activists in the Middle East and has learned and shared in their experiences. In July 2009, he participated in the Viva Palestina relief convoy to Gaza, which brought much needed aid to blockaded Gaza.  Jeff has spoken many times about the Israel-Palestine issue in schools, churches, community and peace organizations, mosques and has appeared on local and international TV and radio. He has also published articles and op-ed pieces on US policy and Middle East issues.

Join us for a conversation about the events surrounding the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. Vice Provost,  Jeff Pokorak and Professor of Law, Frank Cooper will lead a conversation focusing on the facts of the case, the history of racial profiling in America,  militarization of police and media coverage.

5:30 PM - 8:00 PM Prison Book Program
Join us for an evening of service at the Prison Book Program in Quincy to help promote education and literacy for prisoners. Read letters from prisoners and sort and package books to be sent to them. Volunteers meet at the Center for Community Engagement, Donahue 209, at 5:30 and travel together to Quincy. This is a weekly opportunity limited  to the first 6 volunteers who R.S.V.P. through SUconnect.
