In the last year, as the number of opioid-related overdoses and deaths continued to rise, the Supreme Judicial Court confronted the ongoing friction between existing laws and the medical field's approach to addiction, numerous local and state governments brought actions against pharmaceutical companies that aggressively marketed opioid painkillers, and the Massachusetts legislature attempted to respond to the crisis with new laws. The symposium will feature members from all branches of government, local and state---  as well as legal experts, who will enlighten the audience on where we are, how far we've come, and where we need to go.
