The story of New York's indomitable, street-wise champion of the arts, Joe Papp (born Yosel Papirovski in Brooklyn in 1921), founder of The Public Theater who introduced interracial casting, free Shakespeare in the Park, Hair, A Chorus Line and nurtured many of our greatest playwrights and actors. Papp was a tireless fighter for the arts whose productions often addressed political, racial, and economic issues. Featuring Meryl Streep, James Earl Jones, Kevin Kline, Martin Sheen, Olympia Dukakis, Mandy Patinkin, Ntozake Shange & more. Directors: Tracie Holder & Karen Thorsen. 84 Minutes.

A panel discussion will follow the screening with directors Tracie Holder and Karen Thorsen, Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence and A.R.T. founder Robert Brustein, and Artistic Director of the Modern Theatre Marilyn Plotkins.
