View engaging design work from graduating seniors in our Graphic Design BFA program. 
9:00 AM - 7:00 PM "The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History"

The Adams Gallery at Suffolk University presents The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History, a photography exhibit that challenges viewers to think about what they see when they look into this mirror onto an earlier time. Interactive elements suggest reflection about how one sees race – in oneself and in others.

The exhibit includes daguerreotypes, tintypes, ambrotypes and other forms of early photography as well as prints from tintypes made by an Air National Guardsman deployed to Afghanistan. Ed Drew’s modern-day tintypes are believed to be the first battle zone photographs using this method since the American Civil War. 

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Safe Zone I Training: An Introduction to LGBTQ Communities

Safe Zone I focuses on increasing awareness and educating participants on key issues impacting the LGBTQ community, LGBTQ vocabulary, queerphobia, privilege, heterosexism, cissexism, and the basic elements of being an ally. Participants in the Safe Zone I training are given the opportunity to sign an ally pledge and receive a Safe Zone sticker

Karen Kaplan joined Hill Holliday in 1982 as a receptionist. 

Today, Karen is President & CEO of Hill Holliday, one of the world’s most respected advertising agencies with more than $1 billion in annual billings and 850 employees in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and South Carolina.

In recognition of her career achievements, Karen was selected by Advertising Age for its highly coveted “Women to Watch” special report honoring the nation’s top women in advertising, marketing and media.

Karen was elected Chairman of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and President of the Massachusetts Women’s Forum. She serves on the Board of Governors of the Chief Executives’ Club of Boston, on the Board of Directors of Jobs for Massachusetts, National Association of Corporate Directors New England Chapter, the Massachusetts Conference for Women, and the Post Office Square Trust, and is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, an action-oriented community of the most effective CEOs, heads of state, Nobel Prize winners, and non-governmental leaders in the world.

Karen is a Trustee of Fidelity Investments and a Director of DSM (dba Delta Dental and DentaQuest), a dental benefits provider.

Are you curious about what Allyship actually is? Would you like to become a more involved supporter of social justice as an advocate? The Ally Institute is a fun and interactive workshop focused on analyzing microaggressions and the roles that they play in our society. Come look at not only what microaggressions are but interesting and effective ways to combat microaggressions in a campus setting. The Ally Institute creates a safe space free of judgment for those interested in learning more about diversity and the role they can play in changing social constructs in our university. Students of all identities are welcome to come and discuss the effects of microaggressions as well as how to create more inclusive environments in the Suffolk Community.
