| 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM | Philosophy Colloquium: Technology and Ethical Experience A Philosophy Colloquium Series event.
Featuring Mark Sentesy, Boston College, Philosophy Department.
The ethical neutrality of technology has been widely questioned, for example, in the ongoing gun-control debate. At stake is whether technology changes the ethical character of our experience: is it different to see a beating than it is to videotape it or watch it on television? Through a discussion of examples such as computers and weapons, Professor Sentesy will argue that not only do the effects of technology extend much farther than we are normally aware, into the whole system of human activities, but that in addition the presence of ethically neutral technology in our lives affects our ethical experience in a very significant way.
All are welcome!
