Examining the Prison Industrial Complex Through a Social Justice Lens
Start Date: 3/25/2015Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 3/25/2015End Time: 8:00 PM

Event Description:
There will be limited seating for this event and registration is required.
Join Social Justice Trainer and former Diversity Services Associate Director Craig Cullinane for an introductory workshop on social justice, the prison industrial complex, and the intersections of identities. The prison industrial complex in the United States houses more prisoners than any other corrections system in the world. Currently, while the US has just 5% of the world's population, it incarcerates 25% of the world's prisoners. This interactive workshop asks participants to both explore their often unexamined thoughts and beliefs about prisoners while also supporting them in understanding the complexities of this system. Using a social justice perspective, this workshop will help clarify the intersections or race, privatization, and social control that inform the prison industrial complex in the United States.
