Designing and Teaching Online Courses (DTOC) Mini Institute
(Formerly Online Course Design Mini-Institutes)
Weekly starting March 21
Facilitator: Linda Bruenjes, Technology Innovation for Learning and Teaching, Associate Director, CTSE

Are you new to teaching online?  Have you taught online in the past but want to learn more about particular online teaching strategies?  Do you want to join a group of online educators to discuss or learn how to use tools that enhance the online learning experience?  Are you interested in learning how to spend more time supporting learning and less time on repetitive activities?  Have you kept up with the evolving pedagogy of teaching online?  If you can answer YES to any of these questions, we invite you to sign up for this series of mini-institutes. Faculty and staff are invited to sign up for the entire series, one in the series, or a select few to which you can commit the time.  Each mini-institute will be one week in length. All institutes will be held online. Participants will be given instructions prior to the start date.

DTOC-MI #1 (Formerly OCD-MI #1): Introduction to Online Learning – an Overview 

Recommended for faculty and staff who have not taught online and/or who have little or no familiarity with learning management systems.

Learning Objectives – In this mini-institute, participants will:

  • Access online learning materials
  • Participate in online discussion forums
  • Create a personal organization protocol to support learning in an online environment
  • Complete an online learning module
  • Form a learning community
  • Self-assess readiness to teach online
  • Submit a reflective summary
