9:00 AM - 7:00 PM "The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History"

The Adams Gallery at Suffolk University presents The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History, a photography exhibit that challenges viewers to think about what they see when they look into this mirror onto an earlier time. Interactive elements suggest reflection about how one sees race – in oneself and in others.

The exhibit includes daguerreotypes, tintypes, ambrotypes and other forms of early photography as well as prints from tintypes made by an Air National Guardsman deployed to Afghanistan. Ed Drew’s modern-day tintypes are believed to be the first battle zone photographs using this method since the American Civil War.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Australian-Asian Co-productions: A Case Study of the ABC-HBO Asia Partnership
Dr. Robert DeFillippi, Suffolk University, will talk about Australian-Asian Co-productions: A case study of ABC-HBO Asia partnership.

Many Asian producers of film and TV do not like the American Hollywood model of global production. The Asian producers want to focus on local themes relevant to their own societies, and on programming for younger viewers. They aim to work with Asian creative talent to bring the films and dramas to the market. Professor DeFillippi has been working most recently in Australia, Japan, and Indonesia on his research.

This event, co-sponsored by the Rosenberg Institute for East Asian Studies and the Department of Communication and Journalism, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
