The Possibility Project and How to Empower Teenagers: A Lecture by DVS Paul Griffin
Start Date: 2/6/2013Start Time: 5:30 PM
End Date: 2/6/2013End Time: 7:30 PM

Event Description:
Distinguished Visiting Scholar Paul Griffin, Founder and President of The Possibility Project, will give a lecture on youth development, with a particular focus on the adolescent period of the life cycle and on education. He will examine education from our teenagers’ perspective and look at why the current approaches to improving education aren't having a big impact and what might work better.

With over 18 years of experience working in the field of youth development and the arts, Griffin has overseen the creation of 64 original musicals written and performed by youth. He has presented workshops and performances for dozens of major organizations and events such as the Children’s Defense Fund, District of Columbia Superior Court, National Multicultural Institute, The American University School of International Studies, and George Mason Institute of Conflict Resolution. He has appeared in various media, such as “The Bob Edwards Show,” to speak about teenagers and their development. He has been honored at The White House as a Tomorrow’s Leader Today, and received the Public Allies Changemaker Award and the National Hamilton Fish Institute Award for Service. Paul also teaches The Performing Arts for Social Change at Sarah Lawrence College where he is Francis Ann Cannon Artist-in-Residence.

Griffin is a Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences, and will present additional lectures and discussion topics during his two-day residency, February 5-6, 2013.

Sponsored by the Distinguished Visiting Scholars program and the Government Department.
