9:00 AM - 7:00 PM "The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History"

The Adams Gallery at Suffolk University presents The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History, a photography exhibit that challenges viewers to think about what they see when they look into this mirror onto an earlier time. Interactive elements suggest reflection about how one sees race – in oneself and in others.

The exhibit includes daguerreotypes, tintypes, ambrotypes and other forms of early photography as well as prints from tintypes made by an Air National Guardsman deployed to Afghanistan. Ed Drew’s modern-day tintypes are believed to be the first battle zone photographs using this method since the American Civil War.

4:15 PM - 5:30 PM Inside Leadership Series: John Brooks

Guest speaker: John Brooks

John is President/CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center.  When he took over this financially troubled institution, he moved the mission from a Boston based Harvard Teaching Hospital that studies diabetes and sees patients to an educational institution with the mission of “curing” diabetes everywhere in the world.  Under John’s leadership, Joslin has formed Joslin Everywhere and created a special room called the Collaboritorium.  John is re-birthing a legendary Boston institution.

He did not become a nonprofit hospital CEO the regular way.

Educated as an accountant John began his career in traditional ways at Arthur Andersen.  After a career in Pfizer that got him P&L experience he co-founded three life sciences companies and then co-founded Prism Ventures, one of the world’s leading venture capital firms focusing on life sciences.

John is a member of the Board of Trustees of Suffolk University.

The Inside Leadership Podcast Series introduces this generation's "self made leaders" to the next.
