Black History Month Keynote Speaker: Unbought and Unabashed: The Courage of Principled Black Brilliance
Start Date: 2/4/2016Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 2/4/2016End Time: 6:30 PM

Event Description:
In the midst of national turmoil on college campuses and off, there is an ever-growing need for each of us to each tap into our unique ability to be powerful beyond measure. Dominant narratives tell us that change happens because of venerated leaders.  But societal shifts benefit from the resolve of principled people. So, we take a moment to expand notions of where strength lies, to bring visibility to untold stories, and to explore how compassion and conviction interrupt cycles of brutality and indignity.

Shaya Gregory Poku currently serves as the Program Director of the Social Justice Resource Center at Northeastern University, where she helps train the next generation in critical thinking, global awareness, and self-knowledge. Committed to the ideals of reconciliation, resilience, and restoration, she has spent the last nine years developing and managing programs that are responsive to the intersections of structural violence, inter-communal violence, and state warfare. Her diverse professional experiences have been an effort to understand and dismantle forces that stymie human flourishing. You can follow her on Twitter: @OptimizingPeace.
