A bipartisan team of two former members of Congress will visit Suffolk from Feb. 21-23. The two former Congressmen, Nick Lampson (D-Texas) and Tim Petri (R-Wisconsin) will come to Suffolk for class visits, breakfast and lunch meetings with students, faculty, and administration and will take part in a special forum: "The Future of Oil" Monday at 10 a.m. in the Law School Function Room.

Join Us for a brief lecture on Blood Spatter Analysis by Crime Scene Analysis Expert Lori Bunnell Purdy. Guest Speaker, Lori Bunnell Purdy, has over twenty years of experience with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab. Her expertise ranges in drug identification, evidence control, criminalistics, and serology units. Her experience includes forensic analysis of hundreds of crimes and crime scenes, involving blood spatter, gunshot residues, toolmarks, sexual assault, stabbings, beatings, strangulations, motor vehicle accidents, bank robberies, and drugs. The SUFSS Blood Spatter Analysis will involve us projecting synthetic blood onto various surfaces. With the help of Crime Scene Analysis Expert Lori Bunnell Purdy we will analyze the bloodstain patterns by examining the various shapes, locations, and distribution of patterns of the bloodstains.

CTSE Faculty and Professional Learning Communities provide the support and motivation for members of the Suffolk community to research recent pedagogical and curricular trends, to implement these and other new teaching strategies in their classrooms, and to measure the impact of these new strategies on student learning.  FPLC participants are chosen from an applicant pool of full-time Suffolk University faculty and administrative professionals with teaching responsibilities who are interested in studying and conducting an individual classroom-based research project. Criteria for selection include: commitment to quality teaching, level of interest in the program, need, openness to new ideas, and potential for contributions to the program. If you are interested in learning more about the FPLC program, please come to this information session.

Safe Zone: Queer People of Color focuses on the intersection of gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, and race in the lives of Queer People of Color. Participants will expand their understanding of the unique challenges this community faces and will develop skills in how to be an ally across difference.

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Film Screening: "Before the Trees Was Strange"

Come join us for a focus-group screening of an advanced rough cut of “Before the Trees Was Strange” (75 minutes), a documentary film directed by Derek Burrows based his family history. Derek will be asking the audience members for their feedback on the cut as part of the process of refining the project for its final form. 

The film was produced by The Mirror of Race Project here at Suffolk. This film explores not only the hidden history of Derek’s family, but also the meaning of race as it is constructed within national borders and across international boundaries.
