Join us for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Event and Reception, our annual celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr!

Our main program will go from 12:15pm - 1:30pm
Reception to follow from 1:30pm - 2:30pm

During the program, our keynote speaker, Dr. Cheryl Matias, will speak about how her work on race, ethnicity, and feminism and on how whiteness impacts education supports the continued dream of racial equity and collective liberation that Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr spoke about during the March on Washington in 1963 in his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Tamika D. Mallory is nationally recognized as a passionate champion for social justice who has worked closely with the Obama Administration as an advocate for civil rights issues, equal rights for women, health care, gun violence, and police misconduct.

She served as a national organizer for the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, which drew 300,000, as well as Justice or Else!, where she delivered a national address to over 700,000.

A leading figure in the grassroots, community-based effort to stop gun violence in New York City, Tamika was instrumental in creating the NYC Crisis Management System, an official gun violence prevention program that awards nearly $20 million annually to innovative violence intervention organizations. After serving as National Action Network’s youngest Executive Director, Tamika founded Mallory Consulting, a strategic planning firm in New York City.

Speak, Object Exhibit (Multi-Day Event)

New England School of Art & Design - (Suffolk University Art Gallery)

The work in the exhibit ranges from repeated forms to found items tenderly wrapped to rubber molds of transformed objects. In addition to the work curated for the exhibition, each artist has been asked to choose an object from their private collection to be part of their display, adding another layer of narrative and a way of thinking about what an artist is compelled to make. 

Participating artists: Caleb Cole, Judy Haberl, Steve Locke, Greg Mencoff, Janice Redman

Reception: Thursday November 30, 5:30 -7:30 p.m.
