Who are the Enemies Within?:  Counterterrorism Measures from September 11th to the Boston Marathon Bombings

Location:  Suffolk University Law School | First Floor Function Room

The panel discussion will feature some of the foremost practitioners and experts in the counterterrorism arena who are prepared to discuss the efficacy and constitutionality of counterterrorism measures employed within the United States. 

The panelists are:

  • Matt Apuzzo is the co-author of a recent book on terrorism and domestic surveillance entitled Enemies Within:  Inside the NYPD’s Secret Spying Unit and bin Ladin’s Final Plot Against America.
  • Jim Ring is a retired supervisory FBI agent who investigated the American La Cosa Nostra and the Sicilian Mafia in New England. Mr. Ring received the Department of Justice’s highest award as the architect of the first and only electronic interception of the La Cosa Nostra/Mafia induction ceremony of new members, including the Omerta oath.
  • John Rizzo served for 34 years in the Office of General Counsel at the CIA where he provided legal counsel, policy guidance, and leadership on the most difficult and time sensitive national security issues facing the United States.
  • Carol Rose is the Executive Director of the ACLU of Massachusetts, which has a staff of twenty-five professional advocates and membership of more than 25,000 people in Massachusetts that uses litigation, legislation, communications and organizing to promote civil rights and defend civil liberties.
  • Jeff Taylor is the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, which is the nation’s largest U.S. Attorney’s office and was responsible for the investigation and litigation of criminal and civil matters in the D.C. and federal courts.
