All are invited to a poetry reading by Suffolk University's Distinguished Visiting Scholar David Ferry. Professor Ferry is the 2011 winner of the prestigious Ruth Lilly Prize for a lifetime of poetic achievement that includes five books of his own poetry and acclaimed translations of the Gilgamesh epic, the Odes of Horace, the Eclogues and Georgics of Virgil, as well as a translation-in-progress of Virgil's Aeneid.

The Office of Health and Wellness and Suffolk's Peer-Health Educators (SUPERS) will be hosting an interactive, fun and non-judgmental workshop on health and wellness in the USA. Topics will include stress management, sexual health, sleep, nutrition, alcohol and mental health.

Event will take place in the Center for International Programs and Services Student Room on the 6th floor of 73 Tremont.
1:00 PM - 2:15 PM Talk by Malalai Joya, "The Bravest Woman in Afghanistan"

Come hear Joya speak about the plight of Afghan women and her struggles against injustice. Joya was elected to the national Parliament of Afghanistan by the largest majority of any candidate, but then she was dismissed in 2007 for publicly naming warlords and war criminals. She has become a victim of death threats and assassination attempts. You will also learn about her memoir, A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice.

Sponsored at Suffolk University by the Center for Women's Health & Human Rights; Departments of Government, Sociology, History, and Philosophy; Crime and Justice Studies Program; CAS Dean's Office; International Law Students; International Law Concentration; and Suffolk University Women of Color Law Students. Joya's US tour is sponsored by the Afghan Women's Mission and the United National Antiwar Coalition.

Brush up your knowledge of common problem areas of English grammar, such as tenses, prepositions, articles and overall sentence structure. Learn the logic behind English punctuation, especially the use of commas and periods. Practice finding and correcting errors in exercises, and in your own and other students’ writing.

This workshop will take place in the Center for Learning and Academic Success (room 3062) on Tuesdays from 2:00-2:50pm.
