All Day Art & Design Alumni Exhibit - Suffolk Art Gallery
NESAD Grads: Out in the World

At New England School of Art & Design, faculty are deeply engaged with their students. The connection between students and their teachers works in both directions, and often remains long after the academic experience ends – as a professional relationship, or as a philosophical or creative influence. Nurtured here, this group of alumni carries with them a passion for their chosen field, the skills to express themselves and their ideas, and the discipline to realize them. They have the all-important ability to communicate and connect with the larger world through relevant art and design. The exhibition represents all areas of study at New England School of Art & Design, including Illustration, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture and Fine Art.

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Black/Queer/American: Screening of "Brother Outsider" & Panel Discussion on Being A Queer and Black in the USA
Join the Office of Diversity for a screening of the film "Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin." A master strategist and tireless activist, Bayard Rustin is best remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, one of the largest nonviolent protests ever held in the United States. He brought Gandhi’s protest techniques to the American civil rights movement, and helped mold Martin Luther King, Jr. into an international symbol of peace and nonviolence.

Despite these achievements, Rustin was silenced, threatened, arrested, beaten, imprisoned and fired from important leadership positions, largely because he was an openly gay man in a fiercely homophobic era. Five years in the making and the winner of numerous awards, This film focuses on Rustin’s activism for peace, racial equality, economic justice and human rights. A panel will follow and pizza will be served
