4:45 PM - 8:30 PM Greater Boston Food Bank
The Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and one of the largest food banks in the country. They distribute more than 34 million pounds of food and grocery products annually to a network of nearly 600 member hunger-relief agencies. Volunteers will inspect, sort and pack donated grocery products that are then distributed to hunger relief agencies.  Volunteers will meet in the Center for Community Engagement, Donahue 209, at 4:45 and travel together to the site.  This opportunity is limited to the first 5 participants who RSVP on SUconnect.

Stay on top of the latest trends and practices in real estate with Suffolk University’s Center for Real Estate 6 week Professional Development Program.

Part II of our Professional Development Series
Anatomy of a Sustainable Real Estate Project - 20 Somerset Street

Drawing upon Suffolk University’s $62 million development project at 20 Somerset Street, students will learn why and how to incorporate sustainability into real estate projects and property management. This course will also encompass additional case studies such as Partner's HealthCare Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston Properties' Atlantic Wharf, Urban Edge's Jamaica Plain Apartments, and more. Topics include: high performing buildings (new construction and existing buildings), green leases, preparing for a changing climate, and developments in energy policy. 

Students will learn about:

  • Creating and operating buildings in a way that minimizes environmental impact, reduces emissions, contributes to health, and reduces operating costs
  • Engaging building occupants to help shape their environment
  • Designing leases to encourage environmental performance
  • Improving climate preparedness, from a municipal as well as organizational perspective
  • Complying with new state laws and city ordinances, such as the City of Boston Building Energy Reporting and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO)
