Installation of Guru Granth as Scripture

Event Description:
Sikh holyday: On this day in 1708, Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th of the Sikh Gurus, declared the sacred text of Sikhism his successor, making it the supreme and everlasting spiritual guide for Sikhs.[i] Guru Granth Sahib (“Most Revered Book”) is the Head of the Sikh religion, revered as the Divine Word, and treated with the utmost respect during worship and in its repose.[ii] It contains the inspired writing of the first four Gurus, moral instruction for the improvement of the soul and spiritual salvation, and wisdom from the world’s religious traditions, as well as 3,000 hymns.[iii]
