All Day Last Day to Drop a Winter Course Without the Grade of an F
Last Day to Drop a Winter Course Without the Grade of an F
8:30 AM - 8:30 PM Drawing=Thinking
Conceived in tandem with Cannot Be Described in Words: Drawing/Daring, at The Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA, the ‘exhibit’ will activate the gallery by transforming it into an interactive maker space for drawing and thinking. The programming is conceived as a response to The Art Complex Museum exhibit whose participants (four of whom are New England School of Art and Design faculty) share a sense of daring: exploring new approaches, scale and mediums that expand the definition of drawing and add to what that definition can be.

Drawing = Thinking enhances the gallery as a site actuated by the correspondence of drawing to thinking and vice versa. Workshops and demos will give students and the general public and students the chance to experience the many ways that drawing and thinking overlap.  The results from these will contribute to a growing exhibit in the space of the gallery from November through January.

All workshops will be during student activity period –on Tuesday or Thursday, from 1 – 2:30p.m.
Pizza will be provided
Check the gallery website for schedule of activities:

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM (Cancelled) Collaborative Learning Classroom workshop

Collaborative Learning Classrooms (CLC) are designed to facilitate student-centered learning activities that directly engage students in the learning process. This collaborative learning space can be used to develop problem-solving skills, accommodate team projects, and increase student participation. The CLC learning environment encourages learning through peer instruction and active learning, and its design encourages interaction among students and the inclusion of all student voices.

In this session we will discuss the benefits of encouraging student engagement by incorporating discussion, active learning techniques and collaborative work. Participants will begin the process of designing and structuring group work assignments.

Workshop will be held at 20 Somerset, classroom #314. Register by contacting the CTSE at ctse@suffolk.edu or 617-573-8222

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM (Cancelled) Continuity of Learning workshop

Interruptions to learning come in all forms.  During the Spring 2015 semester, unprecedented snowfall caused disruptions to teaching and learning schedules across campus and created transportation challenges that made it nearly impossible to navigate one's way to the classroom.  Faculty scrambled to make up for lost time by condensing lectures and/or eliminating assignments while others scrambled to offer just-in-time learning opportunities by putting short lectures and assignments on line.

But the disruption to learning continuity may be more often caused by less calamitous events such as unexpected illnesses, conference attendance, or family commitments.

In this session we'll discuss the benefit of having a "snowy day lesson plan" and how to prepare for unexpected disruptions to learning.  Participants will leave with several ideas and resources for creating class activities for the next snow closure, sick day or other unintended class disruption.
