All Day Tu B'shvat
Tu B'Shvat, the 15th day of the Jewish month of Shevat, is a holiday known as the New Year for Trees. Judaism has several different new years - Tu B'Shevat is the new year for the purpose of calculating the age of trees for tithing. The Torah states that fruit from trees may not be eaten during the first three years; the fourth year's fruit is for G-d, and after that, you can eat the fruit. Each tree is considered to have aged one year as of Tu B'Shevat. One custom is to eat a new fruit on this day, or to plant a new tree.

11:00 AM - 4:00 PM Juxtapose: Art & Design Faculty
The theme of the exhibit is played out in the curation, that is, the juxtaposition of the work of one artist with another provokes a conversation between the pair. This will open up a different kind of dialogue with the viewer as well.  The notion of juxtaposition is one we all know well and use to make sense of what we encounter in our everyday lives. Artists of all kinds use this notion to create works that are both thought-provoking and evocative. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Suffolk community and the public to see the artwork of our Art and Design faculty which is as varied as the subjects they teach.

Opening reception Thursday, January 25, 5:30 – 7:30, Gallery talk 6 pm
