8:30 AM - 8:30 PM Stephen D. Paine Scholarship Exhibition - Suffolk University Gallery
Established in 1999 by the Boston Art Dealers Association, The Stephen D. Paine Scholarship is designed to support students who are entering their final year in studio art programs at colleges in the city of Boston.
9:00 AM - 7:00 PM "The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History"

The Adams Gallery at Suffolk University presents The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History, a photography exhibit that challenges viewers to think about what they see when they look into this mirror onto an earlier time. Interactive elements suggest reflection about how one sees race – in oneself and in others.

The exhibit includes daguerreotypes, tintypes, ambrotypes and other forms of early photography as well as prints from tintypes made by an Air National Guardsman deployed to Afghanistan. Ed Drew’s modern-day tintypes are believed to be the first battle zone photographs using this method since the American Civil War.

10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Conference, The Mirror of Race: Seeing Ourselves through History
Please join us for a conference celebrating the launch of the “Mirror of Race,” a project that uses early American photography to reflect upon and provoke discussion of race in American history.

Admission is free, you may register here. PLEASE NOTE: As of Friday, January 24, the luncheon is full/closed. However, you are welcome to attend the conference sessions.

The conference is open to the Suffolk community and the general public.
