Philosophy Colloquium: Several Matters of Life and Death: The Crux between Classical and Modern Philosophy (Happiness, Death, Nobility, and Science)

Event Description
The Suffolk University Philosophy Department and the Suffolk Philosophy Society present an event in the Philosophy Colloquium Series featuring our own Martin Black.

In this talk , Black intends to trace the change in the ends of life accomplished by some early modern philosophers such as Machiavelli, Bacon, and Descartes, and the implications of this change for our understanding of happiness and the role of reason in life. A few readings are attached to provide more fodder for discussion.

This context will allow for a suggestion about the specific difference between classical and modern science and in particular for the reason why there can be no reconciliation of the merits of each in a single account of the whole.

All are welcome; refreshments will be served!
